My wife accuses me that I only like to eat at a few restaurants. For Chinese, I like the Rice Bowl in Mandan. For seafood, I like Red Lobster. For Mexican, I like Paradiso. For steaks, I like the Seven Seas in Mandan.
For fast food, I like Taco Johns. For ice cream, I like Dairy Queen. For a salad, I like...well, I don't really like a salad. So I guess I'll eat that at home.
I do, however, want to mention that for a general, all-around casual dining, my favorite is Bonanza. I'm especially fond of their chicken montery. I'm not too fond of their steaks. But I like the charcoal grilled flavor of the chicken montery and a baked potato. I generally start the meal with a Ceasar's salad and finish it with a dish of bread pudding topped with ice cream.
At college, my mom was very concerned with what I was eating...and she had every right to be. My diet often consisted of pop corn and candy bars. I occasionally felt it necessary to eat some meat so I would boil up some hot dogs. For the longest time after college, I couldn't eat a hot dog. However, in the last couple of years I've gotten a little more lax on my food choices. I do prefer to eat a brat or kielbasa to a hot dog...and I like them grilled.
Generally, I have my favorite meal for every restaurant I frequent. For instance, I like sweet and sour chicken at the Rice Bowl, beef enchiladas or taco salad at Paradiso --plus the chips and salsa, of course. At the Seven Seas, I always order the South American steak -- king sized -- and potatoes au gratin.
However, at Red Lobster, I have no favorites. Or should I say "Everything is my favorite." I like the "all the shrimp you can eat." Also, I'm fond of the Ultimate Feast. The last time I was there I had the scallops, shrimp and lobster tail grilled over the hickory smoke fire.
We have a deal with one of our credit cards where we redeem points for dollars off at Red Lobster. Right now we have a card with $40 worth of Red Lobster food. However, we're saving it because Derek and Camila are going to come to Mandan some time in the future and they want to eat there.
To paraphrase a lawyer joke, $40 at Red Lobster is a good start. However, everything helps.
So, of course, my question to the bloggers is this....forget about O.B. and A.G. and let's talk something serious. Where's your favorite restaurant and what's your favorite meal?

Italian: Walrus, Italian Sausage Pizziola Pasta
Chinese: China Wok Buffet
Buffalo Wings: Applebee's
Pizza: A&B
Steak: Applebee's Bourbon Street Steak
Mexican: Taco del Mar
Burger: Woodhouse
Fast Food: Wendy's #6 with chili
Fries: Arby's
Salad: Minerva's house salad, or Walrus house salad with Tangy Raspberry Vinaigrette dressing (the only salad dressing I ever eat)
Brunch: Peacock Alley (when they have it...that deep-fried French Toast floats my boat)
Dessert: Paradiso Sopaipillas, Pizza hut Apple Crisp or Blueberry Crisp pizza, Tiramisu at the Walrus
Other: Pizza Burgers "Flying Style" at Big Boy
I'm like a secret agent man - I never enter a restaurant without knowing how to get out of it with what I want. In other words, I have a favorite at each place and order it instantly and without fail.
My favorite meal would be either 1) Applebee's Bourbon Street Steak with a side of mild boneless wings; or 2) ISP at the Walrus with the aforementioned house salad and tiramisu.
WOW, this list is way too exhaustive for a comment. I like food, and food really likes me. Asking me what's my favorite is like asking what's my favorite song or book. It would be easier listing things I don't like. But the challenge was laid down so I have to try.
Buffet: North American Steak Buffet
Chinese: China Star or any place with build-your-own stir-fry
Pizza: A&B, but I do like the Pizza Ranch buffet for variety
Steak: Applebee's Bourbon Street (Excellent choice Clint!) that steak rocks. I would love to get that marinade recipe
Steak: Yes, Steve, the 7 Seas South American steak does have its merits, very delicious
Burger: East 40 chophouse (2-for-1) ALL day on Tuesday's. they're all good but my favorite is the Cattle Baron with thick bacon, cheese, and BBQ sauce with extra sauce on the side
Fast food:McDonald's I worked there for 4 years and I think they changed my molecular structure somehow to crave their food
Fast food:Yes Clint, you cannot beat Big Boy's pizza burger flying with the fries and gravy of course
Salad: give it to the rabbits, there's worthier things to eat
Dessert:I eat too much main course to have room for this, but the Dairy Queen Brownie Earthquake rattles my taste buds
Seafood:Red Lobster, no question
Italian:no definite favorite, Johnny Carino's, Minerva's, Olive Garden are all good
Mexican:Fiesta Villa Super burrito, but Paradiso will do in a pinch
Brunch:Buffet at the DoubleWood Inn, I like the Omelette bar.
Finally, a subject I feel very qualified to weigh in on (so to speak!).
Chinese: Rice Bowl in Mandan. Beef Lo Mein.
Italian: We are blessed with three great Italian restaurants, so I try and patronize all three when possible.
Seafood: Red Lobster. I'm a crab legs fanatic, however, every part of the meal is great - fresh salad, garlic cheese bisquits.
Steak: Seven Seas - South American. I don't get there much, but it's worth the wait.
Pizza: A & B sausage and cheese, no sauce!
Burger: Woodhouse or Applebee's Bruisetta burger.
Fast Food: I'm thinkin' Arby's
BBQ: Famous Dave's. I enjoy Space Alien's bbq, but the dining experience there leaves a bit to be desired if you are over the age of 12.
I love eating at Bonanza. I'm a salad bar junky and just love their salad/food bar. Who needs an entree? I'm also a big fan of their service, their fresh, clean salad bar and their timely beverage replenishing!
http://www.recipesecrets.net/home.html?hop=jclopez21 For around $30.00 you could get these cook books.The reason I mention them is in one of the books they have the recipe of the Bourbon Street steak at Applebees.Of couse that defeats the purpose of going out to eat.It feels good to be pampered after a stretch of hard work.I don't go out much because I very seldom get food That I really like.It's always just O.K.or less.Maybe I expect too much.I could have bought 200 cans of mushroom soup,which I really like,For what we paid to go out to Red Lobster last week.I got the Maine lobster meat,steak,and shrimp Oscar.It was grilled over the hickory smoke but I couldn't taste it.I couldn't find any Maine lobster meat,either.The steak and shrimp were O.K and the waitress seemed to be giving orders instead of taking them.I like salad and that was the best part of the meal.I've never left a restaurant I could say "that was great food"!I have however said "that was the nicest waitress"and really meant it.I once had a man across from me cut a piece of his prime rib,then ask a waitress to take it back because it was not done enough.Later she brought me his meat with the piece cut out and now cold.I don't make this stuff up.I haven't ordered prime rib since.My wife,over the years,has found this to be average when I get out to dinner .One more,--I ordered a T-bone,med rare.It came to me refigerator cold.The waitress ask if it was done alright.I said it's med-rare but very cold.She took it back and must have tried warming it with a plumbers butane torch.By now my friend had finished dinner and dessert. My steak came back warm with the savory taste of a newly opened cigarette lighter.There is a "Howards Pizza" in the states capital I like.Other than that,I think I'll order the cook-books.
We have a LOT of Italian places at our disposal:
Walrus (my favorite);
DiDonna's (opened by the former Walrus head chef);
Minerva's;
Castillo's (AMAZING food);
Olive Garden (corporate Italian);
Johnny Carino's (among the best)
That's a-lotta Italiano, mi paisanos!
My problem is I don't know what to order when I get there.I wish I could wander around seeing what everyone else has and order what looks the best.The folks that dine out alot always have a better selection of food than I get.I'm liking this when people are naming foods.I have probably seen the Bourbon Street steak on the menu but didn't order it because I didn't know what it was.I can't wait to try it.Thanks for the ideas.
You sound just like Lindsay when it comes to Red Lobster, a place I have a very hard time finding anything I like at all. I love their biscuits, but I think they cook their steaks poorly, and I don't really like any seafood. As far as dining here in Pocatello is concerned, we love everything. We actually make it a point to eat at every restaurant in town, and with the exception of a couple of bars and the new places in the warehouse district, we've managed to become pretty familiar with 'em. Naturally, we never miss our Friday afternoon Fajitas and Cheese Crisps at Mama Inez, and we hit the Taco Wagon every 10 days or so...
I have to agree with Kristopher and crew, Mama Inez is my all-time favorite Mexican restaurant here in Pocatello, veggie enchiladas ranks high on my list.
Lindsay and Kris do know best when it comes to dining out, so we let them pick our dinners out together. Perkins is our #1 choice for breakfast out on Saturdays. Rich likes link sausage and pancakes, I've been having oatmeal with walnuts, raisins, cinnamon and brown sugar on the side.......so good. Other than that, it's the good old Graves' kitchen. How fun it would be to eat Red Lobster with Derek and Camille!
